Avenue A project is a residential urban infill project located in the heart of downtown Birmingham. The project consists of 28 two and three-story townhomes in four structures. Set along the Rotary Trail, this project embodies a seamless fusion of urban sophistication and natural beauty. The contemporary aesthetic uses a limited material and color palette with high contrast that emphasizes the structure’s form. The townhomes all front a common court and provide private outdoor space on the roof deck of each unit. Avenue A represents a mixed-income choice product type that was woefully underserved in the Birmingham area. The creative approach to the platting of land allowed us to create high-density fee-simple ownership in a marginalized downtown whose growth was largely limited to rental multi-family. By pushing the boundaries of accepted practices, this project embraces urbanism, meanwhile illuminating the transformative potential of thoughtful and intentional urban planning.
