It was a dream that has now been fully and wonderfully realized through a true team effort of shared ideas, experiences and talent. Just like the clients dream of the past, the house nestles into the site as if it had been there all along while also accommodating the needs of today (family, fun and entertaining). Reminiscent of an old english tudor style home, the exterior and interior spaces provide both cozy, comfortable private areas with spacious and light-filled public rooms. There is a place for everyone in this home. Great things happen when the client, architect and contractor align and this home is an example of something that will live well long into the future.” Seth Rodwell, project architect

As we make the transition out of August and into September, we welcome another new face here at Nequette! Our new hire, Keaton Ernst was immediately subjected to the office "Get to Know Your Neighbor" questionnaire. According to Keaton, learning a new product type, design style and working at a new scale was what brought him to Nequette with the bonus of meeting an entirely new team! The Auburn alumni in the office were pumped with rounding out our alumni count to 10 right before the start of football season (fingers crossed!). When not working or repping the Tigers, he is busy with a home renovation he just started so of course when we asked him what he would do with $1200 in 48hrs he said it would be to "buy more wood and tools for the renovation" With that we introduce Keaton...⁣

6.) You are an Olympian – are you going to the summer or winter Olympics and what are you competing for Gold in? Summer for sure. Probably Sport Climbing⁣

7.) If you could live anywhere in the US other then Birmingham where would you choose? Somewhere out West, maybe northern Utah to be closer to more sport climbing.

“The thought behind the interiors for the Blackridge Clubhouse was to maintain a monochromatic color palette throughout with the variation of texture and materials keeping the space from falling flat. The large stone veneer fireplace and chimney acts as an anchor to the main interior space lined with large cedar wood trusses that blur the lines between the inside and outside spaces. The open floor plan has a large living space with adjacent kitchen and dining areas allowing for a large flexible space to host dinner parities and special events that can spill over into the adjacent courtyards.” Kelly Butler, project interior designer

“The Blackridge Clubhouse and amenity structures

“The Blackridge Clubhouse and amenity structures located in Hoover, AL were inspired by the rustic WPA National Park Lodges and architecture built during the 1930’s. This clubhouse will serve as a place for the community to gather, relax and enjoy outdoor activities on a beautiful lake. Not only is this clubhouse accessible by foot but it has a 200 ft long wood boardwalk anchored by a wood slat canoe house which allows residents to rent a kayak, canoe or pull and dock their own boat. The clubhouse is a mix of natural stone cladding, large cedar wood bracket elements and cedar shingled roofing. On the lakeside of the clubhouse is a large infinity edge pool, and on axis from the clubhouse a large cedar beam pergola and a covered pavilion with a fire pit provide a space for people to come together.” - Mark Riddle, project architect

“Pinewood Forest is an art-inspired, walkable community growing along Pinewood Studios south of Atlanta. Nequette has been fortunate to work with these great people and develop what will soon be the town center. To create a town from scratch is an enormous endeavor and takes lots of works from even more people, but it’s very rewarding to watch it come to life, to watch the makers and sellers open shops to the awaiting neighbors and watch the smiles on everyone’s faces as they stroll through the spaces you helped create. There’s no bigger payoff to the work we do than to see our clients (and their clients) enjoying their new places.” - Jared Calhoun, project architect for Pinewood Forest

Rounding out our “Get to Know Your Work Neighbor

Rounding out our “Get to Know Your Work Neighbor” series we present to you Emma! Being one of our newest members of the Nequette crew, she helps boost the number of Auburn football fans in the office (War Eagle!) and thankfully loves Christmas as much as we do. Since she also loves Christmas in July, she’ll be making her game plan early for our annual office Dirty Santa party. She describes her style as lighthearted and if any architect could design her home it would be Urko Sanchez. On the weekends, you can find her having her favorite meal at Chez Lulu for brunch and watching reruns of Game of Thrones and Fresh Prince. She may have wanted to be an Olympic Athlete when she was younger, but we are so glad she decided to go the route of architecture! Lastly we leave you with her favorite quote “To die would be an awfully big adventure. To live would be an awfully big adventure.”

We introduced you to Emily back in October, but with her 1 year anniversary creeping up on us we decided to re-introduce team interior’s secret weapon! A Samford alum, Emily has spent the past year practicing her chops and working on every project that has come across team interiors desks. Her constant willingness to help others is always done with a smile on her face and an excitement to learn new things each day. She has also introduced the team to the Subway sandwich app and has started a Spicy Italian cult within the team that is so strong it has now become the official sandwich of team interiors. Everyone get excited because here is Emily!⁣

2.) Favorite project you have worked on during your 1st year at Nequette? I think I’d have to go with Grace Farms. Getting to experience residential for the first time has been such a treat for me!⁣

3.) If you could live anywhere in the US other then Birmingham where would you choose? Memphis - no doubt!⁣

4.) Describe your version of the most perfect sandwich? A heated turkey sandwich with cheese, lettuce, green peppers, banana peppers, spicy mustard and salt & pepper⁣

5.) How did you and Porter meet? Well we briefly met the first week of freshman year at Samford. However... Porter does not remember this!!! So we will go with: we met in art class the following semester. ⁣

6.) If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life what would it be? Anything neutral or blue⁣

7.) What book would you recommend everyone read? I’m really not a huge reader, but I’d highly recommend Letters To A Birmingham Jail.⁣

8.) Favorite day of the week and why? I really love Saturdays when we have nothing planned. Porter and I love getting out and exploring Birmingham!⁣

9.) When this is all over someone gives you $1200 to do whatever you wanted but you had to spend that $1200 in 48hrs....what would you do? I think I’d road trip to the beach ☀️

Meet Sarah Jelks! Sarah’s an Auburn alum (War Eagle!) and she’s been designing at Nequette for almost 10 years. Sarah gives her all in everything she does which is why every detail in our projects is thought out and every holiday & birthday is celebrated in the office! She is thoughtful, caring and loyal which are just a few of the many things that makes her such an amazing leader. Also... if you ever want to make her day bring her an iced UNsweet tea! Here’s Sarah!⁣

1.) Favorite project you’ve worked on at NEQ? I have to say the Thomas and for so many reasons. Part of the reason is because of the journey from the English Village office to where we are now. Another part is how my pregnancy with Iris overlapped the project... from drawing all the units in my 1st trimester & wanting to barf ‪24/7‬, from climbing the questionable ladder through a hole in the roof at 38 weeks pregnant so I could see our office framed, to having Iris nap on Jessica in the office during my maternity leave because I couldn't stay away & had to check on the progress. Baby Iris was along for the ride that whole project. Also, this project was the first project Team Interiors conquered together!⁣

2.) Favorite Holiday? Thanksgiving used to be my favorite until I got a stomach virus the afternoon of the office 2016 Thanksgiving potluck. I've disliked Thanksgiving ever since. If I had to pick a new holiday I’d pick Christmas Eve. The combo of the beauty of Christmas Eve mass & the girls eagerly anticipating Christmas morning is pretty magical.⁣

3.) Favorite trip? I originally put Italy but 2 hours later I was like wait no it’s definitely the weekend Gus & I went to New Orleans and got married 1.) I married Gus that weekend but 2.) It is the only time we have ever had everyone we loved all together at one time and that's pretty hard to beat⁣

4.) If you could live anywhere other then Birmingham where would you live? New Orleans. That will always be home to me.⁣

5.) When this is all over someone gives you $1200 to spend how you choose but you had to spend it in 48hrs... what would you do? I'd put $500 towards plane tickets to Disney. The rest I’d split between Feed America & the ACLU

Meet Travis Burke! Travis is both Team Leader and Project Architect, but what you may not know is that he is also our go to I.T. man, building manager for The Thomas, master griller, and game show host for our office’s weekly Friday afternoon zoom calls. Your computer running a little slow? You need something fixed? Want to grill out some burgers? Want to play Family Feud? He is your guy! Here’s Travis! ⁣

3.) I feel like you always have interesting stories from project/site visits. What is the craziest one? A lot of these to choose from – Superintendent getting arrested at job trailer, being forced to evacuate a building because plumbers cut too much of the framing, almost impaling myself on foundation rebar that was covered by a 34” snowfall (and not capped), and have even found myself at a red carpet birthday party in a New York penthouse. ⁣

4.) Best meal you have ever had? Low Country shrimp Boil in Gulf shores – The last meal I had with my Dad when he really enjoyed it! ⁣
