It was excitement about the rebirth of downtown Birmingham, and a chance to try out his own ideas about urban renovation, that resulted in Louis Nequette’s latest project, The Thomas.

The mixed-use development on Second Avenue is in the finishing touches stage, as Nequette took two historic buildings and added another floor.

The Thomas features nine loft-style one-bedroom apartments, two office suites and two ground-level retail spaces. Nequette Architecture & Design is moving into office and studio space on the new fourth floor.
