Hawks Nest

Crane Hill, Alabama

As this lake community began to come to life, Louis realized the influence his trip to Ireland had on the way this community looks and feels. On the Irish coast, little hamlets, little collection of cottages create villages that dance on the slope of the water. This is truly the inspiration for this community.

The idea that you still have community, small intimate places to gather and visit but you still have privacy. Nothing is meant to be ostentatious or over the top. The lake house sizes are simple and small. There is a central green, a tower, a pool and of course the use of natural materials: stone timbers, real wood roofs and even the retaining walls were formed from the railroad ties that were in turn re-used for the pathways.
